Right by the Honda R&D Labs in Tochigi, Japan, there is a small factory that seems too small to be a car factory. The Takanezawa factory, however, is Honda's flagship factory, in that it was created to exclusively build the NSX, until now - the S2000 joins it on this famous factory. The most high-tech production technology and old-time craftsmanship come together in Takanezawa. In order to produce the strengthened chassis of the S2000, Honda went as far as to develop a variety of new welders. For example, the impressive front end of the S2000 is made with a 1,500-ton press-machine to: (1) Draw, (2) Bend, (3) Trim, (4) Trim again, in an exact, precise, taxing method. |
The High-X-Bone frame-based monocoque body also is made using custom hand-welders, and is assembled precisely, and efficiently by two veteran staff members. Aside from such unique features, uncompromising quality control, and precise production are both the pride of the Takanezawa factory.![]() |
While providing unique hand-craftsmanship, the Takanezawa factory has gotten attention as the first to achieve the International ISO4001 standard for environmental management - showing that we believe in the importance of both old and the new.
As the production of the S2000 begins, Takanezawa continues to be a unique, "small-numbered, mass-production, custom factory." It contributes greatly to Honda's new challenge - which is to deliver the most technologically advanced Real Sportscar - the S2000 - at a reasonable price. |
