Doug MacMillan

Doug MacMillan is a manager by profession but blows away his free time and excess money doing his favourite thing - racing his Honda CRX VTEC ! On October 19 1997, Doug broke the New Zealand land speed record for the 1600cc class 1km flying kilometre sprint, acheiving 239.3km/h. This record is officially verified by the New Zealand Motorsport body which is the official representative for the FIA.

According to Doug, his acheivement is unofficially a world record for the same class because there is currently no world record. However, acheiving ratification at the international level would require him to fly in an FIA observer. That would've costed a lot of money - money better spent elsewhere.

In his own words, Doug's plans for the future are:

"I would very much like to take the 24 hour endurance record for New Zealand - Outright and not just 1600 cc class. Currently held by a 4 litre BMW schnitcher and 4 new Zealand Racing drivers. For that I will need money - about $10,000 to pay for fuel and circuit hire etc.and three other drivers. I've done the figures and I know I can do it"

Go for it Doug, we are all behind you !
