Suggestions to Readers Checking out a Honda Group/Club

While the prospect of joining a club is very exciting, readers who are thinking of checking out one should nevertheless keep a few common-sense things in mind.

The obvious things like : do the club activities and objectives agree with you, etc really do not need to be touched upon. I am sure all readers can judge those very well for themselves. However I would also advice readers to exercise caution too. Before deciding to join the group/club, do check to make sure that it is not related to any illegal activities like illegal road-racing with betting or a road-gang. Don't forget that while the internet is one of the greatest communications invention of modern times, it is still a faceless medium. Everyone and everything are hidden behind the computer screen and the browser window. Persons are mere email address and an entire entity/club is but a web-site. So, please remember to exercise caution and moderation when checking anything out.

Readers should also bear in mind that some countries may have very strict requirements for groups like car-clubs etc. Some, like Malaysia, are relatively easy-going - as long as the groups do not participate in anything illegal, they are pretty much left alone to do what they want. But do be mindful of the fact that the club you intend to join may well be officially out-lawed !

When joining a club, do realize that you're meeting strangers. So, do exercise caution - what our parents taught us about strangers do apply ! Thread carefully until you find out enough to trust your new friends.

The Buddhists believe in karma. I think some also know it as fate. It is funny but whether one cliques well with another person is a very mysterious process. Personality clashes often do happen. In a club of many Honda owners, this can quickly lead to very unpleasant things. Please do bear this in mind.

EGO is one of the most dangerous thing on earth. Unfortunately, almost everyone will have an ego. It is unavoidable. But whether one lets ego dictate one's life is more important. When you first get your Honda, it will seem like it's the fastest thing on four wheels. Especially true if you have a DOHC VTEC. It is difficult but please do exercise restrain. The chinese believe that no matter how high a mountain is, there will always be another one higher. So, don't go into your new club with a headful of ego, - even if you have an NSX Type S-Zero. Chances are there's probably someone else who have bought last year's JGTC winning Takata NSX and detuned it for road use. 400+ps with 6-speed sequential, over 350kph top speed...

OK, after all these are taken care of, the last thing remains most important. Enjoy yourself !
