Temple of VTEC Asia - The SCRAP-BOOK

This is the first part of The Scrap-Book when it was started a few years ago. At that time, my intention was to show-case various one-off interesting photos to TOVA readers. Eg, just barely more than a couple of years ago, the fact that there was a Civic SiR with the B16A 1.6l DOHC VTEC engine was relatively unknown in many parts of the world. I had in fact received a number of emails that hint at a scepticism that such a model actually exists. So I intentionally took two photos of my friend's EG9 Civic SiR to answer just that. Very happily, I believe that TOVA now holds much more credibility and things that I publish here actually do hold some weight.

This 'archive holds updates till about Feb 1999

This grey Skyline GT-R has been in Aerotech for quite a while. I asked Rennie and he told me it has a 'mere' 400-500ps at the wheels ! I do not remember what it went into Aerotech for, probably for further mods to get even more power - 400ps at the wheels is somehow insufficient ! The model here is the R32 GT-R if I'm not mistaken. One of the cars that will give our VTEC heroes a lot of problems, especially on the open expressway roads is the very famous Subaru Imprezza WRX. This beautifully kept WRX was visiting Aerotech and I quickly snapped a couple of pictures, unaware that the owner was standing next to me !

The WRX here has been modified and without any further identifications, I do not know enough to determine if it's the 'plain' 200ps WRX that has been imported into Malaysia for local consumption or if it's the monster 280ps WRX RA-Sti version !(02-01-99)

TOVA regular Mike Mathews from Singapore is the first to contribute to Scrapbook with this very nice pix of the Honda S2000! (01-06-99)

EG9 JDM Honda Civic Ferio SiR. EG9s can be differentiated from other Civic Ferios by the existence of a wiper at the rear screen. Also, an EG9 in original trim will have the 'SiR' sticker at bottom right.

EG9 Engine Bay. A true JDM original Civic Ferio SiR. This generation uses the 170ps B16A.

EF7 JDM CRX Si. JDM CRX Si's uses the ZC engine; 1590cc DOHC PGM-Fi producing 130ps and red-lining at 7200rpm.

Mitsubishi FTO GPX. Japanese Car of the Year for 1996, the FTO GPX uses a 2.0l V6 DOHC EFi MIVEC engine producing 200ps and redlining at 8000rpm. It solidly bested the Prelude Si-VTEC when it was introduced but was later beaten by the legendary DC2 Integra Type-R.

The Honda City Turbo-II. Yes, a stock turbo-charged Honda! Available only in the Japanese Domestic Market during the mid 1980s, this photo came off a japanese magazine.
