Temple of VTEC Asia - The SCRAP-BOOK

This is the second part of The Scrap-Book as it was started a few years ago. Around the beginning of 1999, I noticed that TOVA had gained quite a bit of credibility - ie many readers now believe that such things as JDM cars with much higher specs than those they were used to in their countries' domestic market really do exist !!

Around this time too, I notice that being in Asia, even South-East Asia countries has started to get advantages when getting new models from Honda. Eg, Singapore actually got the true-blue 170ps JDM-spec B16As in their EK4 Civic, now truly labelled as an SiR. Other things that worked in our favour is the much closer proximity to Japan and thus parallel importers became much more 'efficient' in getting models which were only available in Japan at one time or another. Eg, Malaysian parallel-importers got their stock of the brand new S2000 way, way before any country outside of Japan even got a sight of them...

This 'archive holds updates from about Feb 1999 till just before the recent server crash.

Jared sent me pictures of his blue transtop Del-Sol CRX SiR. Very nice car ! Jared actually sent me three picture but unfortunately I lost one due to a clash in file names (11-18-1999)

More S2000 goes on sale in KL Malaysia as other used-import shops gets their (brand new) models into the country. Naza motors displayed this grey colored model in their own car 'carnival' at the Shah Alam stadium car-park a short while ago. They were asking for a lower price than the one I saw earlier, 'only' M$290,000.00 (!).

My buddy LeeSK was passing by coincidentally at the same time that I was also visiting the carnival. He however had a working digital camera (the batteries on mine decided to give up just at that time !) so he just snapped away. This set of new S2000 photos are thus contributed by SK - thanks buddy ! Note that this one had different model rim than the silver one I saw earlier. It was drizzling at the time of our visit so the car is covered with raindrops.

Finally the S2000 has gone for sale in Japan. Now, just a short while later, I already know of two JDM S2000s for sale, both imported new from Japan. For those who knows KL well, there is a red S2000 for sale at Jalan Pudu but the one I got a chance to take a close up look at was at Kepong, and silver in color. Without bothering to ask for permission, I just snapped away with my Fuji VGA digital camera. I selected 6 photos for Scrap-Book, specifically to illustrate the detail that goes into this great car. This S2000 comes with 16 inch BBS rims and special Bridgestone tyres. The header design is a 4-2-1 but terminates with twin mufflers on each side of the rear. The asking price is a cool M$350,000.00 !! Yikes, for this price I can get a 4-5 years old NSX and will have a hard time choosing between them ! Of course I actually can't afford this crazy price :-P

While most of us in Asia have taken it for granted, I have been quite surprised at the number of people outside of Asia who doesn't know that there was indeed an Accord 2.0Si with the B20A DOHC PGM-Fi engine generating 155ps. I got the chance to see this dark blue Accord 2.0Si while in Aerotech recently, so I quickly snapped a picture of the '2.0Si' badge together with the engine bay, clearly showing the 'twin-cam' engine mounted inside. I have always found the larger twin-cam engines to be mounted in an unusual position. Notice from the picture that the engine is tilted the 'other way' compared to the way the smaller 1.5 to 1.8l engines (D15B, B16A, ZC, B18C) are mounted.(04-14-99)
