The 1991-1995 generation Civic bears the code E-EG. In this generation, the EG6/EG9 Civic/Civic Ferio SiR/SiR-2 continued the tradition of the legendary EF9 Civic SiR by taking it one stage further, now inheriting the 2nd generation of the legendary B16A engine (170ps) from the DA6/DA8 (1991-1993) Integra XSi/RSi.
In this generation, Honda also took the opportunity to introduce 'Civic Ferio' as the new model name for the 4-door sedan Civic whilst retaining the Civic model name for the 3-door hatchback.
The famous 1590cc ZC engine gained the VTEC system but used on a SOHC configuration. However, it is now used on specialised types; Ferio sedans available only in auto or with Honda's realtime 4WD.
The performance oriented types now uses a VTEC version the 1.5l SOHC engine as well. This new engine ably takes the place of the ZC DOHC engine, producing the same power (130ps) and almost the same torque despite a 100cc deficit in displacement and one cam-shaft less !
